Grade 1/2 Fall 2024 Carlin Elementary and Middle School

Publication day! The after a month of work, we took a class photo with our first books!

Reading Chester on the second day of our book project. We learned about what we find in books, starting with author, illustrator, and title, eventually moving to the characteristics of a story, such as plot, characters, setting, problem, resolution, and climax.

Students really enjoyed the chance to make their own book covers and then have them laminated. This really made their work feel special. We had students who had been difficult to engage really become enthusiastic about having the freedom to write about almost anything in their world.
This project allowed us to meet the support needs of all of our students. Some were able to craft basic paragraphs, while others were able to choose single words to go with their illustrations. Everyone was able to produce a book with several pages and a cover to share with their classmates and take home to share with their families.
